FIDE Outlook Towards 2012

FIDE’s mission is to promote saving and efficient use of energy, and contribute to social and economic development and to improve the environment.

FIDE is committed to support the 2007-2012 National Development Plan, in its section related to the electric sector and in the National Strategy for Climate Change of the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa.

Facing the imperious need to revert ecologic damage brought about by the emission of greenhouse gases that affect the atmosphere and foster global warming, it is necessary to adopt measures that contribute to mitigate this phenomenon.

One of the most effective ways to achieve immediate and transcendent results, is the application of electric energy saving actions. While in parallel new generating technologies with renewable energies and integral models of energy efficiency are applied.

It is important to point out the commitment we have to foster these measures, in harmony and coordination with the CFE, LyF and the SENER, and all of the institutions in the sector.

We consider that the outlook towards 2012, is to favor the growth of electric energy saving with high impact actions, and with a priority that allows the energy sector to differ investment in generation, consume less oil equivalent barrels and prevent the emission of millions of tons of polluting gases to the atmosphere, in order to achieve national objectives committed by our government before the international community

This proposal offers benefits to society, such as how to diminish customers cost of electric energy consumption, especially to those in needy communities, reduce subsidies in rates, increase competitiveness of companies and the generation of jobs.

Together with benefits listed, electric energy saving programs are technically feasible and economically profitable, because investments are recovered based on savings from their own electric consumption.

Finance savings and energy efficiency programs, are good business for all, because they represent approximately one fifth of the investment cost in equivalent generation and is totally recoverable. Additionally, these measures may qualify in the clean development mechanism to participate of carbon bonuses.

We invite all sectors and organizations to continue with the desire to contribute to the improvement of energetic challenges, and in world cooperation for the mitigation of climate change.

We fully value joint work, and the support provided by our FIDE Technical Committee, because the sum of proposals and solutions, allows cooperation with the goals of social improvement and a better quality of life for all Mexicans.
